ROTO-ROOTER PIPESHIELD
While at Studio One Eleven we partnered with Roto-Rooter, although normally a service provider, they approached us to help them design a custom one gallon package for "Pipe Shield", a preventative maintenance solution sold by their technicians after service. My role on this project was design lead - guiding the design all the way into tooling.
WHO YOU GONNA CALL?
“CALL ROTO-ROOTER, THAT’S THE NAME, AND AWAY GO TROUBLES DOWN THE DRAIN.”
INITIAL RESEARCH
A competitive analysis was done in phase zero, along with some initial research around the ergonomics of one gallon handled bottles. The ecosystem surrounding the Roto-Rooter service was also taken into account.
KEEP THE FLOW
Since a large challenge with this project was creating a design language for a company that essentially had none. I came up with the idea of "Fluid Tech". This was inspired by the advance technology the technicians were using in combination with the basic idea of the service is to keep water flowing through customer's pipes.
INITIAL CONCEPTS
After an aspirational form language was created I went into a sketching phase focusing on an ergonomically friendly handle and 2oz dosing cup that was integrated into the package. Below are the initial concepts shown to Roto-Rooter:
CAD DEVELOPMENT
After Roto- Rooter had narrowed down to one concept we moved into CAD development of the bottle to begin understanding the volumetric capacity of our design and how the bottle and over cap would coexist together. This allowed me to provide a solid foundation for engineering to fully flesh out how the over cap would snap on.
THE HERO SHOT
Keyshot renderings were shown to the Roto-Rooter Marketing team to help narrow in on color options and the final look of the design. From there our team worked with the supplier to finalize DFM and tooling. The product has shipped and is now on shelves.
